Ernst Vogel Watermill Museum

The historic Ernst Vogel watermill is located on the edge of Beelitz's old town centre. It has been extensively renovated by the town and the mill technology has been restored, supplemented and repaired. The museum is a place where the history of the farming town is presented and made comprehensible in the wider context of culture and everyday life, with the areas of agriculture, crafts and technology taking centre stage. The historical site, whose existence and utilisation goes back to the agricultural cultivation of grain, is particularly well suited for the presentation of the theme. Grain as the overarching theme of the exhibition links the individual subject areas such as grain cultivation and processing, mill technology, branches of the grain-processing trade and social aspects of Beelitz town history using the example of the artisan families.

In conjunction with the new municipal library and the Kunstremise in the inner courtyard, a new cultural centre has been created for the town of Beelitz. A diverse exhibition is spread over three floors, where you can discover exciting things to do with milling. A model shows what it looked like here around 1850, when the flour mill and the cutting mill were still in operation. The original and partially reconstructed mill technology forms the central narrative thread of the exhibition. Activities for young and old complement and deepen the theme. A media station with a touch monitor uses animations to explain the technology and the milling process. On the upper floor, an interactive station links the history of the town and the mill. At an audio station, voices from the past talk about everyday life in the mill. Children can also listen to fairy tales, experiment at a hands-on weighing station and solve puzzles with Mika the mouse. The museum's educational area for (school) groups with guided activities is located on the top floor. Special guided tours of the exhibition are possible.
