The City Museum opened in 1980 and contains three sections: city history, art and firefighting equipment. The permanent exhibition informs visitors of the early settlements of the Oderaue Region to the foundation of the city of the steel city in the GDR. The gallery presents an art collection from the GDR with paintings, graphs and small sculptures. The gallery puts on approx. six art exhibitions per year with established as well as young artists, especially from the East German states. The fire department museum opened in 1992. It contains one of the most significant collections in Germany. The permanent exhibition displays objects from the world of firefighting from the 16th to the 20th century.
