Cottbus City Museum

"The memory of the city - the collection tells" offers you an exciting insight into the Cottbus Municipal Collections. Today, the municipal collections comprise around 1,000,000 objects. These include natural history and geological objects as well as archaeological and cultural objects relating to the history of the city of Cottbus and the region. We have selected around 500 objects from our collections, present them to you in the permanent exhibition and endeavour to tell you the stories of our city.

Go on a journey through the history of the city and region. Find out how lignite was formed and which animals and plants characterised our region up to 550 million years ago. Find out why the Wendish language is still part of our culture today and where the lords of Cottbus resided. Your journey will take you from the Reformation and the great city fires to industrialisation and the emergence of a modern industrial city. After the two world wars, you will take a look at the development of the city during the GDR era. Present and future topics conclude your visit in the exhibition "The memory of the city - The collection tells".
